East Hotel | Hong Kong

Me & The Bubble Chair

“East Hong Kong is a trendy luxury hotel that is a haven for business savvy people”

East Hong Kong

The masterminds behind East Hong Kong (Swire Group & CL3 architects) have gone above and beyond to provide guests with every imaginable convenience while sticking true to their laid back and casual attitude. East is not only a haven for business travellers but leisure seeking guests too.

East’s (click here) philosophy was to create an environment where there is a perfect balance of work and life, with every attention given to physical comfort, as well as comfort of the senses to create a balance of the body and soul. In East’s own words: “the yin and yang”.

Located in the heart of Taikoo, the surrounding area is renowned as an established business district. Given the convenient location of the MTR next door, the hotel is easily accessible by all parts of the city.

Check’n In

Our check-in process started before we even arrived at East. The hotels’ Audi Q7 (with wifi) picked us up from the lobby of the previous hotel. Drove us through the cityscape of Hong Kong, all the while pointing out landmarks and historical features and after about an hour dropped us right at the lobby. By the time we got there the team had already organized everything to head straight to the room, where surprisingly our bags were in our room before we were.

Simple & Clean Check-In

The hotel prides itself on being eco-friendly (big thumbs up) so check-in is paperless. Everything is done through computers and tablets. When checking out, all you need to do is walk out the door, and they will do the rest for you.

One thing that instantly grabbed my attention was the different pops of artwork throughout the hotel. The lobby is minimalistic and clean but every so often a beautiful pop of vibrant artwork can be seen which really energizes the place.

The Room

The hotel has 345 rooms. Of these rooms there are 6 expansive suites. We were lucky enough to be in one.

Our Harbour View suite was equipped with everything your heart could desire when staying at business targeted hotel. Everything was at a touch of button (think work station, apple TV, free wifi and ‘handy’ phone) but specifically hidden behind walls and panels to create a sense of personal space (This is East’s Ying & Yang element in full play).

East Suite Is Very 'Instagramable'
I Spent My Entire Stay Between Here & The Bed

Our suite overlooked Victoria Harbour with a complete wall of floor to ceiling windows. The suite was 60sqm of seamless natural decor. Bamboo finishes, limestone flooring, white marble bathroom and pops of art which created a gorgeous light, bright & fun filled ambience.

Sittin, Waitin, Wishin

If East had a middle name, it would be “wordplay”. In our suite, we had a limited edition resin dinosaur with “MADE IN CHINA” tagged across it’s neck (Think of him as your very own pet T-Rex for the stay) and this was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to East’s playful side.

Food & Beverage

Keeping on the wordplay trend, FEAST (Food By East) is a semi-buffet, a la carte all day dining restaurant. We had breakfast and also a light dinner here during our stay.

Then there is the funky rooftop bar called Sugar, which is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day, I even got to try ‘Betsy Beer’ (google it) another division of the Swire group family.

We also ate Mr & Mrs Fox, a 3 level rustic-meets-ritsy restaurant 5-minute walk from the hotel. The food and atmosphere was great and the place really had a community feel to it.

Swire Group actually owns all of the surrounding area (business towers, apartments and a shopping complex) with East being smack bang in the middle. So there are a multitude of good eats and bars all within a 5-minute walk from the hotel, which are ideal for business dinners, afternoon drinks or a hearty meal.

Pool & Gym

BEAST (Body by East) is open 24 hours and is well equipped with all the necessities for a hotel gym and has a nice view of the water too. The pool area was reasonably large, from here neighbouring buildings soared above and you could see people in their day to day lives.

Body By Beast

Around the corner from the pool you will find the hotels very own Veggie garden, full of luscious gorgeous fruit and vegetables, which is then prepared and used in meals downstairs.

East Vegetable Garden

Pros:

  • Beautiful Spacious Room
  • Instagram worthy egg chair
  • Eco Friendly
  • Tech Savvy
  • Accessible
  • Laid Back

Cons:

  • Slightly out of the way from the busier parts of Hong Kong

Overall:

East Hong Kong is a contemporary hotel designed to cater for business travellers and nomads alike, with an emphasis on design, functionality and style. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
