Staycation At The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park

The View From Our Room At The Sheraton Grand

“Who doesn’t love a good staycation? Especially at the newly refurbed Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park.”

The highly anticipated reopening of the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park (previously Sheraton on the Park) comes not only with a 50 million dollar refurb, but also the appointment of the brands esteemed “Grand” designation. Sheraton Grand hotels are renowned for their iconic locations, design, service, dining and spa experiences.

The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park

As the name suggests, the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, is located right next to Sydney’s Hyde Park, right in the heart of the city and close to iconic locations like Bondi Beach and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Check’n In

As we were there as guests for the opening night, the lobby was and reception area was bustling with guests, media and staff. Within the lofty lobby area, there is marble flooring throughout and large beaming marble columns, both which are juxtaposed by the geometric carpet running up the staircase. Our check in was quick and we were up in our room in a matter of 10 minutes.

The Room

There are 558 rooms and suites within the hotel and we stayed Grand Executive Terrace on the 21stfloor. Our room had a lovely view overlooking Hyde Park & St Mary’s Cathedral. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty terrible the night we stayed, which made our view not as great as it could be, but it was still pretty from the terrace.

The room was spacious, with 40sqm of in and outdoor living space. For me personally, I found the room slightly underwhelming and quite dark, but still nice and spacious. The recent refurb has allowed for a more modern feel to be introduced into the rooms.

Things like the geometric carpet (that we saw in the lobby) are carried throughout the building.

Food & Beverage

There are 3 areas for dining at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, to suit everyone’s needs. From Feast which is renowned for the seafood buffet, to High Tea in The Gallery Tea Lounge and The Conservatory Bar for a drink.

Unfortunately as we were rushed and only stayed one night, we weren’t able to experience any of these places.

Pool & Gym

Upstairs on level 22 is where you will find the Sheraton Fitness & Spa (pool, gym and spa). The pool area is quite small, but has a lovely sun roof which what I would imagine would be beautiful on a sunny day (not a rainy day like when we stayed!).

Pros:

  • Rooftop Health Retreat with Pool & Wellness Spa
  • High Tea
  • Club Lounge

Cons:

  • As it has over 550 rooms, the hotel is extremely busy, and for those wanting a “quiet” staycation, this might not be for you.
  • I found the interior to be quite dark, and as it was raining, it was even more so than normal.

Overall:

The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is perfectly located right amongst the hustle and bustle of Sydney, while still overlooking the leafy serenity of Hyde Park.
