Kalettes (The new superfood hybrid)

A Hybrid What?

Yes yes yes, you’ve heard it all before, eat your greens. In the most recent years, we have all been told that kale is the holy grail to your leafy greens, however, if you are like me, and you haven’t particularly fallen in love with kale as much as the next go kale supporter, you will be happy to read that there is a new kid on the block.

It isn’t everyday that I come across a new vegetable, in fact, I was actually introduced to Kalettes over a year ago. I received 3 packets, demolished them, then I couldn’t for the life of me track any down, until now!

Originally introduced by British vegetable seed house Tozer seeds to help boost the sale of Brussel Sprouts. It is a non – GMO vegetable that has been developed through traditional hybridization and not genetic modification.  If you want to find out more about Kalettes – head over here.

Kale is extremely low in calories and packed full of fibre, not to mention is nutrient dense and high in folate, vitamins and magnesium.

Brussel Sprouts are (in my opinion) a bit of an underused veg, it is seen to be a bit of an older generation veg. While they are extremely high in vitamin C, K, B6, B1 & potassium (to name just a few), I just feel as if they are not seen in many house hold dishes with any pizazz.

So: enter – Kalettes the hybrid of two extremely nutrient dense overrated and underrated veggies out there

Ways to eat Kalettes

Halve & sauté in olive oil/coconut oil with garlic, chili for 2-3 minutes
Pick leaves, squeeze lemon and pop in salad
Roast with your favorite root veg (add in with 5 minutes left)
Steam & serve with bacon/spec, chestnuts (think Christmas or Thanksgiving)
