“ The One Barcelona mixes luxury with affordability and convenience at the one spot.”
The One Barcelona (click here) is a luxury boutique hotel located in the centre of Barcelona and on a corner of a bustling street just a block away from the Passage De Gràcia.
We arrived at 1pm from our stay just around the corner. Our room wasn’t quite ready so we left our bags at the concierge and took the opportunity to go to one of the local tapas restaurants. By the time we had finished and walked back everything was ready.
We were upgraded to room 707 which was a junior corner suite thanks to Kiwi Collection. Exiting the lift, the rooms wrap around a glass panelled atrium that runs up the entire building giving natural light to every floor. Walking to our room, every door has dark limestone pillars for automated entry which I found to be a cool little tech feature.
The room at The One Barcelona is the first hotel I have experienced, where you walk through the wash area first. You immediately walk past a striking dark grey marble double vanity with its’ 18 carat gold hardware that contrasts the rest of the rooms light decor. The hotel makes use of every available space and the floor to ceiling mirrors on all the doors give the room a larger feeling then it actually is.
Through the sliding door towards the lounge/bedroom with its off white textured wallpaper, whitewashed oak floor tiles and bronze lining was a very nice bottle of champagne waiting for us (another kiwi perk). The queen bed has a very nice tapestry bed head and there were window ‘doors’ that opened up to the outside, a feature you will never find in an Australian building.
What the room lacked in size, it made up for with the quality of all the finishes. Egyptian cotton sheets, softer then air pillows, marble & limestone bathrooms and splashes of gold is what makes the hotel.
Food & Beverage
The breakfast was on the ground floor at the Somni Restaurant. It was a limited selection of al la carte options but the food itself was nice. What I was most surprised with, was the extravagant array of wines that were on display in the commercial sized fridges. The display is what you would expect to find in most of the larger bars in Sydney.
Pool & Gym
The gym at The One was basic, it had a few treadmills, a bike and a few free weights.
The One’s rooftop pool was completely surrounded by glass balustrades that gave an uninterrupted view of the local neighbourhood rooftops. Behind it was the Mood Rooftop Bar that was having an Oktoberfest theme month and is only open in the summer months.
