“Guests should treat the Hotel St Moritz in Queenstown as their very own personal ski chalet”
Blissfully set back from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, Hotel St Moritz overlooks Lake Wakatipu and beyond to the Remarkables Mountain Range. Guests should treat the Queenstown St Moritz as their very own personal ski chalet-lodge. The MGallery boutique hotel is a great place to unwind and relax by the fire place, enjoying a glass of pinot from the Otago Region.
Hotel St Mortiz is located approximately 15 minutes from Queenstown airport. It’s only a short walk to the Skyline Gondola (which is a must!) and for travellers coming for the snow season, it’s roughly about 35-40 minutes to the Remarkables Ski Field.
Just a breezy 5 minute stroll from the busy streets, the Queenstown St Moritz is perfectly nestled upon the hill of Brunswick Street. Entering off a side street, through the sliding glass doors and into a warming fireplace and handsomely furnished lobby. My initial feeling was I was walking into my own personal lodge rather than a hotel. Which is the exact memorable moment MGallery hotels a renowned for.
The soft furnishings and artworks pay homage to the Central Otago Autumn colour palette, with oranges and browns complimented by the slate surroundings. With a crackling fire in full force, crowded with those coming in from a day of hiking, there was a sense of community and celebration in the air. Something that I have not quite ever experienced before in a hotel lobby.
I was located in “The Den” which in closed off section of suites and on the same level as the lobby. Feeling extremely jetlagged thanks to my 30hr transit (having come straight from Germany) I was quite happy to roll straight into bed, with out really looking around or talking to anyone. Being the early bird that I am, I rose at 5am after a much, much needed sleep, I started to wonder around my suite.
I was in the Alpine suite, which was exceptionally large, continuing with the moody handsome décor, there were soft furnishing hues of yellow and teal, complimented by the unique wallpaper which to me symbolized the waters edge.
Within my suite I had kitchenette, dining table and sitting area which looked directly out to the gorgeous snow capped mountains and low clouds. I settled into for a Nespresso while catching up on emails, while taking in the artwork of a rather handsome hare – who’s name I was told later was “Bruce”.
My bathroom was also exceptionally big, with a bathtub, huge shower and large basin with Molton Brown toiletries.
Must: Indulge in one Hotel St Moritz signature Molton Brown Bath – Scented & filled with roses and accompanied by a divine glass of the Central Otago Pinot Noir.
Food & Beverage
Meals are served in Lombardi, which has won extensive awards over the past few years. Obviously me being a foodie, with a love of health and wellbeing, I was excited to see the extensive range of “healthy eats” on the menu at breakfast.
You can opt to sit by the library and enjoy your meals, or if you’re like me and like to look out at nature, pop yourself in the main part of Lombardi, by the window and enjoy the serenity of the mountain range and the lake forefront.
Tip: If you are after a little fancy cocktail – you must try the “Honeynut Martini” inspired by Susan Nugent Wood, who was a pioneer woman of the Gold Rush in Otaga. With NZ 42 Below Manuka Honey Vodka, Frangelico & Butterscotch Schnapps = delish!
Pool & Gym
There is a sauna, gym and even a hot tub spa for guests to indulge in! I popped down to the gym & sauna area most mornings, although quite small, it did the job! My tip would be if you are after some cardio exercise, get outdoors and walk along the beautiful lake front.
That little bit extra special – Inspired By Her
We have all been there, you pack your bags, you eagerly get to the airport, go through security, board the plane, settle in with some in flight entertainment, then…. Mid Way through your flight, that thought of “my toothbrush” “my moisturizer” Did I pack my tooth brush? Did I pack my moisturizer? What about deodorant?
Well, that is me, practically EVERY trip I go on. There is always something, even as small as hair ties. Lucky for me, Hotel St Mortiz, which is part of MGallery Hotels, offers bespoke house robes, eye masks, makeup mirrors, complimentary beauty items, quality hairdryers, emergency kit (full of makeup remover wipes, nail polish remover, hair ties etc) and the list goes on. This package is perfectly tailored to what you need and how to make your stay as a woman, more enjoyable.
Memorable Moments by MGallery
Having spent a little over a week in Queenstown, I can honestly say without fail, that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world (for me personally). The incredible mountain ranges, that are ever so snow capped (during Autumn) with the divine Autumn trees lining the streets, I found myself just walking through the town centre looking around and feeling quite at home. For those that are adventure seekers like myself, or simply want to explore the true beauty that Queenstown has to offer, I would highly recommend doing one of the tailored “Memorable Moments” that Hotel St Moritz has to offer.
For me, my top pick was a Heli Picnic on an extraordinary Alpine Plateau.
At your leisure, fly by private charter helicopter to “The Ledge” on Cecil Peak for a magical half hour of tranquility. There, overlooking The Southern Alps you will enjoy a tasty picnic prepared by Lombardi Restaurant. An incredible sensory moment, where the imposing scale of nature is awe-inspiring.
- Inspired By Her emergency beauty kit
- Ambience within the entire hotel
- Beautiful view of the gorgeous mountain range
- Complimentary Green Taxi from the town centre (once per day)
- Gym was quite small, but, as I mentioned, when you have such a gorgeous surrounding, why would you not go outside to get your workout done!
My stay at the MGallery Hotel St Moritz, was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had whilst travelling. With everything from the staff, to the location, to my room, to the memorable moment (Heli Tour). I am eagerly waiting to return to such a beautiful part of the world.
