The Intercontinental Hong Kong (click here) is the epitome of 5 star accommodation. Set in the heart of Tsim She Tsui, close to MTR and at its’ doorstep some of Hong Kong’s best luxury shopping. This is a hotel that has certainly won me over.
From the distance, the hotels’ facade is somewhat austere and lackluster, but pulling up to the entrance an extravagant, light bursting water feature glistens under the night time skyline. The Intercontinental Hong Kong is the flagship hotel for the Intercontinental Group in Asia. The hotel is surprisingly built out over Victoria Harbour, providing the hotel prime position for uninterrupted panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.
Check’n In
We were greeted by the staff, who was dressed in classic all-white attire. They swiftly whisked us up to the reception and as we were staying on the club-room level, our check-in which was within each of the rooms. From start to finish this was extremely quick, which was great as we were traveling with 2 x 70 year olds who had been on a long flight.
Every minute detail has been carefully thought out to ensure a 5 star stay, including a meticulous Feng Sui overhaul of the entire hotel. One Hong Kong’s leading Feng Shui masters was called upon for consultation resulting in several ‘additions’ being incorporated into the award-winning hotels design thus ensuring the hotel’s continued good prosperity “feng shui”.
The Room
Our room was the Harbour View suite on the club level, which meant that we had the gorgeous view from the 11th floor.
The room had a small desk, king bed and a marble bathroom. Although, compared to other Intercontinental rooms that I have stayed in, our room was slightly smaller. I was traveling with lots of luggage as part of a month long trip, so I needed quite a lot of space.
Food & Beverage
The InterContinental Hong Kong houses 6 exceptional restaurants. We were fortunate enough to eat at Yan Toh Heen (click here) & The Harbourside for what I would say is probably the best buffet iv’e ever had.
We also had a wonderful high-tea at the Lobby Lounge. Looking through the three-storey wrap around windows onto Victoria Harbour while relaxing with a nice cup of tea & scones is something I highly recommend doing at least once.

Pool & Gym
The hotel’s amenities range from a 24hour fitness centre, an outdoor heated pool & spa.
Pros:
- Faultless panoramic view
- The best hotel buffet I have ever had to date (March,2016)
- Quality of food
- Great service
Also a side note, the InterContinental Hong Kong is a large hotel with a high year-round occupancy rate. The staff (approximately 750 of them) provided an extremely high level of service, which was impeccable and could not be faulted.
Cons:
- Very very expensive laundry service
Overall:
My stay at the Intercontinental Hong Kong was one of the most memorable stays I have ever had in Hong Kong. From the service, to the view, to the buffet I could not fault the hotel except for the $$$ laundry!
