Hong Kong is home to two InterContinental Hotels. Their flagship hotel is the Intercontinental Hong Kong (click here for my review) and then there is the InterContinental Grand Stanford (click here), located just 5 minutes (by car) down the road.

The location is similar to their flagship, located on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour at Tsim Sha Tsui East. The Grand Stanford (click here) is close to shops, restaurants, MTR and the Guangzhou-Kowloon through Train Station, making it great for travellers that are planning a trip to the mainland.

Check’n In

Walking into the main lobby, we were greeted and taken upstairs to the club level on the 1^st floor. The entrance and regular check-in was extremely busy, luckily the piano from the adjoining lounge peacefully mellowed out the crowds’ noise.

The Grand Stanford has just won the World Travel Awards for Asia’s Leading Business Hotel so the club level has been tailored towards the business traveller providing executive amenities to make traveling and business blend seamlessly together. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a 5 star luxurious hotel, but I would certainly say it would be a 4 star hotel, with elite benefits (such as checkout at 4pm if club level), luxuriously appointed rooms, business centre and a great whiskey bar for after work meetings.

The Room

Our room was the Premier Harbour View Room. It had a nice view of Victoria Harbour and you could ‘people watch’ the crowd walking up and down the harbour from your room.

There are 570 rooms in the hotel, so our room was not huge but it was functional, clean and had a nice view. Fit with a king bed, a desk, small hallway, there was not too much room to move around our luggage, the bathroom was also moderate but had a gorgeous stone & marble finish.

Food & Beverage & Tiffany’s Bar

There are 5 restaurants at the Grand Stanford. We ate at Café On M & Tiffany’s New York Bar. It was my experience at Tiffany’s New York Bar that made my stay.

Exuding the extravagant era of the roaring 20’s the bar is full of plush vintage furnishings, leather booths and antiques while holding one of Hong Kong’s largest Whiskey collections. In-between the whiskey tasting, dessert and having a long chat with the maître-d Elton (who by the way was an absolute champ) the live band absolutely killed it with their versions of R&B, Jazz and Motown classics.

Pool & Gym

Located on the 18th floor, the 24-hour fitness studio was well equipped with latest Life Fitness machines and looked out straight onto the rooftop pool. The rooftop pool had a mosaic finish and river washed stone edging, which was surrounded by deckchairs and umbrellas. Unfortunately the weather was pretty windy – so we weren’t able to use the pool.

Pros:

• Great view of Victoria Harbour
• Great for people traveling for business
• Tiffanys

Cons:

• Rooms were slightly too small for me
• As it is a larger hotel, it is quite busy

Overall:

We had a very comfortable stay at the InterContinental Grand Stanford and I loved Tiffany’s Bar. I would say this hotel leans more towards the business side of things then leisure, so keep that in mind when booking which InterContinental you want to stay it in Hong Kong.
