Reebok Women #PerfectNever

#PerfectNever

In a world were perfection is so highly sought after, many of us face the daily battle with “what if I am not good enough”. The Reebok Women #PerfectNever Campaign has gone on a mission to reverse this mindset.

For me, reflection, positive mindset and goal setting helps keep my head above this doom and gloom cloud most days. Yet, there was a time where I was so far under this cloud I didn’t see much light shining through. That is why, the Reebok Women #PerfectNever Campaign was such a meaningful journey for me to be apart of.

Reebok Women #PerfectNever

My getaway with Reebok to the Maldives!!!

I was extremely fortunate enough to be invited by Reebok to take the trip of a lifetime to the Maldives. Where I joined a group of incredibly beautiful girls to share our #PerfectNever stories. Over an intensive 3 days, we shared, laughed and cried while all in the most beautiful setting at the W Maldives. The #PerfectNever campaign, fronted by Gigi Hadid encourages women to not only celebrate their imperfections, but be motivated by them, and that is exactly what we did.

Hangin At The W With These Lovely Ladies

Over 3 days, we filmed this video and took some incredibly gorgeous imagery. We were each asked to direct the style of content and how we wanted to represent ourselves through the lens. For me, I naturally chose to show how I quiet my mind, through mindfulness and meditation, along with walking along the beach. The beach walk is what I call my nature walk. At home in Australia, I often take my dogs for walks and take the time to truly appreciate my surroundings. These “perfect” shots, portray more than just a photo for me, they reflect my battles with PTSD, physical and mental health and my journey of healing through nature and mindfulness.

Reebok Women #PerfectNever Campaign

Group Training at Reebok Women #PerfectNever Campaign

This message is so important for women as it invokes a sense of power, to reclaim individuals perception of perfection. With #PerfectNever the campaigns aim is to help women find their own inner quiet and use fitness to rethink their negative thoughts. I am so grateful to have been apart of the incredibly powerful message for the Reebok Women #PerfectNever Campaign to invoke power and personal strength.

If you have enjoyed reading about this, I am sure you will like my post on my very first Fitness First cover shoot.

Healthy Caramel Nut Bar

The ultimate healthy snickers nut bar

A guilt free recipe that has it all! This healthy snickers bar is the perfect alternative to those sugary snacks like picnics and snickers. I am forever searching for that delicious morsel of goodness to satisfy those never-ending day to day sweet cravings. As always, this is a gluten free treat and is perfect for that occasional sweet splurge!

In all honesty, this recipe coming together was a bit of a fluke. I was trying to get a base perfected for another recipe, then one thing lead to another and I sort of just kept rolling with it. Once I saw that it was coming together as the perfect “base” I thought this would make a great bar and what you see is the final product.

I opted for coconut flour and almond meal as the core ingredients for this base. This makes it slightly nutty, gluten free and for it to hold reasonably firm when moulding.

Coconut Flour: Not actually a ‘flour’ and is made up completely of pure coconut (the meat, dried out – normally by baking). I love incorporating coconut flour wherever I can in my recipes, not only because I find it easily digestible but it also is a heavy hitter in regulating blood sugar levels (which is what you want after trying to hit that sweet spot).

Almond Meal: Much like coconut flour, is ground up almonds. Almonds and Coconuts are one of the two most commonly used things in my pantry and fridge, from almond milk, coconut butter right down to dehydrated coconut meat for a little snack. Almonds are a wonderful source healthy fats along with macronutrients and also micronutrients, which together make for prolonged energy.

Healthy Watermelon Ice Blocks – the perfect nutritious Summer treat

Summer has well and truly hit Australia! So, what better way to celebrate the warm balmy nights ahead of us, than to create some seriously delicious and healthy super green watermelon ice blocks!

These healthy watermelon ice blocks are perfect for those fussy eaters (kids or adults) who simply refuse to eat their greens. I for one, have an extremely fussy father in-law who is old school, and avidly avoids my cooking when he knows he will be staying the night. To put things in perspective, the “weird green stuff” never gets eaten and my dogs are always left to help hide the evidence of his inability to devour nutritious food.

So, I am always on the hunt for ways to disguise healthy food. Enter, my healthy watermelon ice blocks – father in law approved!

My secret weapon? No it isn’t blending kale until you can’t taste it, and no it isn’t going to the supermarket and spending hundreds of dollars on ingredients.

Using just a few ingredients, each ice block has over 18 servings of vegetables and your fussy eaters will not be the wiser.

How?

I have used Nature’s Way SuperFoods Greens + and Greens + Wild Reds which are packed full of antioxidants and nutrient dense superfoods. Perfect for those busy bodies who want those essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids, in one hit.

Watermelon Ice Blocks

Ingredients

  • Watermelon Layer

  • ½ of a watermelon quarter (scooped out and deseeded)

  • 500ml H2Melon [https://h2melon.com/]

  • 60g Nature’s Way Greens + Wild Reds [http://www.naturesway.com.au/superfood/]

  • Coconut Layer

  • 1 can of organic coconut milk

  • 1 tablespoon rice malt syrup

  • Green Layer

  • 30g Nature’s Way Greens Plus (tropical flavour) [http://www.naturesway.com.au/superfood/]

  • 300ml Coconut Water

Instructions

    1st layer:

  • In a blender, blitz all of the watermelon layer ingredients. Once blended, fill the ice block moulds until approx. ¾ of the way full.

  • Leave to set in freezer for 2-3 hours.
    2nd layer:

  • In a bowl, stir in ingredients.

  • Pour on top of the watermelon layer, half way of the remaining space.
    3rd layer:

  • In a bowl / or blender, mix the ingredients together. Taste, and if too strong, dilute with coconut water.

  • Pour on top of the coconut layer and leave to set overnight.

Optional: I used cacao nibs for the ‘seeds’ however mine seemed to drop down to the bottom! I would suggest leave your watermelon layer to set for 30 mins, then drop them in.

A beginners guide to going green

I find myself scrolling through drool worthy interiors on my Instagram feed daily. Wanting to make that greenhouse bedroom makeover happen, but not quite finding time to do so. Until now!

I have always wanted that greenhouse vibe in my house, yet it hasn’t been until recently that I have been paying close attention to how much of a positive effect plants and eco friendly interiors can have on not only humans, but those little fury friends of ours too!

So why should you have real plants in your house (not just fake)

Indoor plants: are they really worth the hype?

Breathe & Clean

When we inhale, we bring oxygen into our bodies. When we exhale, we release carbon dioxide. Plants, in fact do the opposite. During photosynthesis, plants absorb our carbon dioxide and release oxygen, making humans and plants a match made in heaven.

By increasing oxygen levels, and keeping the oxygen flowing 24/7, plants not only help us breathe easier, they help freshen up the air, and eliminate harmful toxins.

Focus & Energy

Who would have thought that having a bit of greenery could help you think clearer? Being around plants has been shown to help increase memory retention and concentration (1)

Spending more time immersed in nature gives you a sense of vitality and gives you a good dose of serotonin, so why not bring that nature inside?

Reduce Stress

Have you ever wondered why people love gardening? It may be the fact that they are outside in nature, or it might simply be the element of nurturing nature. Nurturing plants has been shown to reduce stress levels and gives people a way to cope with their negative feelings (2)

I wanted to transform my bedroom from a place of just sleep, into a relaxing haven, where I feel completely at ease. To tie in nicely with my green foliage, I have opted to go down the linen side of things with my bedding. These Sheridan pieces are made from 100% Belgian linen fibers that have been dyed in natural piece muted tones. I was a little hesitant to go down the linen option, even when I unpacked the sheets I was worried that the linen was going to be harsh on my skin. Sure enough though, after a wash and a few good nights sleep breaking it in, the linen has softened quite nicely.

Any tips on now trying to keep my plants alive?! haha

Quinoa Chocolate Mud Cake

My Quinoa Chocolate Mud Cake

Decadent, moist and most of all coeliac friendly!

This is my health(ier) nourishing quinoa chocolate mud cake recipe. It’s perfect for Coeliacs, It’s high in protein, It’s gluten free & It’s for anyone that wants a delicious and moorish treat!

I have never been a huge chocolate person myself, I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate. But I was never that kid that wanted a chocolate mud cake for their birthday. This recipe was actually trying to be a caramel quinoa cake but failed miserably, I couldn’t get the caramel taste into the cake how I wanted.  I didn’t just want to throw out the mixture and start from scratch again so I rumbled (no pun intended) around my pantry and came across some cacao that needed to be used. It wasn’t my first option but luckily it soon progressed into a decadent rich chocolately cake – which I am SO glad it did.

Quinoa Chocolate Mud Cake

By using pre-cooked quinoa, the cake takes on this oddly delicious texture that leaves you wanting more.

I found this killer frosting recipe from Oh She Glows – which really just tops this cake off and turns it into something very special.

What is even more special is the fact that the main ingredient is cooked quinoa – making this gluten free and high in protein (winning!).

This is truly a very rich and decadent special birthday cake and I can assure you it will be a winner in your house hold too!

A Slice Of Heaven

  • • 300g dark non-dairy chocolate

  • Once smooth, sift the sugar, cacao, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Blend until just combined. Spoon mixture into the baking tins, once filled, tap on a bench to remove the air bubbles.

  • Place in oven for approximately 40 – 45 minutes. Then cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes.

  • For the frosting – head to Oh She Glows to get the full run down of this amazing frosting!

  • Whip up frosting, once cakes are cooled, spread half of frosting on top of one cake and place the other cake on top to make a middle frosting layer of goodness. Spread the remaining frosting on the cake and sprinkle with some shredded coconut.

“Most Sydney-siders wouldn’t be familiar with the Primus Hotel. Soo without further ado I will introduce you to this (not so little) hidden gem.”

Primus Hotel Sydney

The unassuming entrance of the Primus Hotel (click here) is located at 339 Pitt Street. Originally home to Sydney’s Water Board HQ. Undergoing a complete restoration, this 1930’s heritage building has had a breath of fresh life put into it. Showcasing the 1930’s art deco era at its best.

In 2008, the Water Board relocated and the two year restoration commeneced. This massive task was undertaken by Chinese hoteliers Greenland International Hotel Group or (GIHG) and architect design firm Woods Bagot.

Check’n In

The Lobby At The Primus

As we pulled up, we were a little confused what to do with parking. The bell boy had gone inside with other guests just before, so we were left on the busy path trying to get our bags out.

Hoping the car would be alright we walked in through the discreet frontage (and to my surprise a rather expansive check in area). A different bell boy was quick to attend to our bags and grab the car.

The lobby features eight original scagliola columns. The restoration of these eight-metre-high pillars has been a feat on its own. (There are only two men in the world that have the artisanal skills to complete such a job). The striking ruby red columns beamed above the marble floors, finished off with the glass brick atrium ceiling.

The Room

There are 172 rooms at the Primus. All rooms feature a dark masculine decor, from the carpet to the oak cabinetry. Breaking up the dark tones are subtle gold geometric trimming, plush pillows and lush robes.

We were in the deluxe suite, and as the name suggests it was spacious and accommodating for those needing a little extra space, ideal for business travellers.

The bathroom was extra spacious with seperate bath, extra large shower and double marble vanity (that had insanely good lighting).

Dual Marble Basins

The art deco theme is carried throughout but reversed, with elegant white “brick like” tiles contrasted by black tapware and finished off with amenities by Appelles.

Appelles

Food & Beverage

For me, I had a bit of a hit and miss in terms of food (in room dining that is). The first day I checked in I was ravenous so immediately went straight for the in room dining menu. I opted for the fish of the day (which was barramundi), it was fresh and cooked well, accompanied by broccolini and fries.

The Barramundi

The second day, we wanted to suss out the ‘cheat meal’ options, and ordered the Wagyu burgers and fried chicken. For me, this meal was inedible. The burgers were not waygu, there were two fillets on top of each other and felt as if it had been pre cooked and the texture was off. The fried chicken was bland and cold and very grey.

Pool & Gym

Level 7

One of the hotels biggest draw cards would have to be Level 7. Once a test rifle range during the Second World War, it has been completely revolutionized to be an exclusive rooftop pool and bar. Fitted with blue and white striped lounges, being quite literally an oasis in the middle of the city, with drinks on hand and in the warmer months being absolutely sun drenched.

There is an outdoor pool located on Level 7, and is heated for those wanting to have a dip during Sydney’s cooler months.

The gym is quite small and underwhelming, but does the job.

On Level 7

Pros:

  • Glamorous art deco décor
  • Level 7, perfect for a cheeky afternoon drink and dip
  • Extremely spacious
  • Prime city location

Cons:

  • In room dining was a little off, I would opt for one of the many great nearby restaurants (or via ubereats etc)
  • Valet parking is an option, however quite pricey

We checked in early, and it must not have registered to other staff, as I had not 1, not 2 but 3 staff members come in after one knock to do quality checks and mini bar checks. Being all the way in the bathroom, they entered far too quickly!

At The Level 7 Bar

Overall:

The Primus Hotel is a surprisingly gracious hotel, with so much to offer. We will definitely be back for another staycation!

My morning skincare routine

Do you have dull and lifeless skin?

What about dark circles? Or redness and pigmentation?

After a long day, you finally get home, one of the first things you do is go to the bathroom and take off your makeup.

If any of the above sounds like you, read on and thank me later.

Enter, Dr Jart and their Cicapair range.

Now, full disclaimer here right from the start, I am not getting paid to write about these products below. I genuinely freaking love this stuff, however, I was gifted these products a few months ago, and I have been hooked ever since, I have been through 3 tubes of the moisteriser and I am on my 2nd pot of the Tiger Grass corrective cream (heaven).

I have been fortunate enough in my lifetime, not to suffer from acne (granted the odd hormonal breakout does greet me here and there). BUT, what I am genetically blessed with is dull tones, extremely sensitive skin and dark circles.

While, I do believe that beautiful radiant skin, comes from within, I also understand that using the right products for your skin is essential to complete that all round glow, that let’s face it – most women want.

My current favourites

Why this range of Dr Jart’s has got me talking is a little so called ingredient called:  Tiger Grass also known as Centella asiatica or Cica. These products (especially the correcting pot) have revolutionized not only my skincare routine, but also has reduced the amount of makeup I wear on a daily basis.

So what is Tiger Grass?

It kind of looks like bamboo, but infact it is a herb that is found in Asia. It has ben in Eastern medicine for various health benefits and healing properties.

Tiger Grass is a herb found in Asia that has been in Eastern Medicine for various health benefits and is packed full of healing properties to help with irritation, puffiness, redness and so much more.

Dr Joshua Zeichner Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mt Sinai Hospital in New York City says: “ It is rich in saponins, which are like nature’s anti-inflammatories and have been shown to calm irritated skin and aid in wound healing.”

In fact, the name “tiger grass” actually is quite literal. Tigers in India actually roll around in the grass to help heal their wounds.

Easy as 1,2,3,4

Step One – Serum

Dr Jart Serum (or good quality Vit C serum)

Dr Jart Serum

I have been using serums every morning religiously for about a year and a bit. I look for a good quality vit C serum that will help brighten the skin. The added bonus of this serum is that it is a highly concentrated, fast acting serum that helps soothe skin sensitivity.

Step Two – Moisturize

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream

I adore this moisterizer! It is thick but not too thick and feels great against the skin. I will only put this on in the morning. Be careful as this doesn’t have an SPF – so make sure one element of your skincare has an SPF (like the next product I use)

Step Three – Corrective Cream

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30

This product here has revolutionized my skincare – I have gone from wearing quite a bit of product to help correct my uneven skin tone – to just this. I find putting just a small dollop on my face and targeting my dark spots and uneven skin tone, can lift and brighten my skin in just moments. I am only just about finished with my first pot of the Tiger Grass, so a little goes a long way!

Step Three – BB Cream

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

I will then go on with a BB cream to add a little colour into my face, a touch of bronzer, blush, brow gel, mascara and set with a rosewater misting spray if I am heading to a meeting or running around.

Have you tried Dr Jart? What does your morning skincare routine look like?

Fun in the sun with BONDS

Aussie house-hold brand BONDS (click here) have outdone themselves with this year’s SWIM range. With gorgeous mix and match bold prints, it not only has something for everyone in the family, but delivers above and beyond with quality garments that will last year after year.

The BONDS SWIM range includes children sizes from 000 to 7 and then caters for sizes XS to XL for both men and women, with styles designed to fit everybody.

Adapting from its much loved female hipster range, this year is all about variety for us ladies, from bikinis, one-piece, tubes, triangle and bandeau.  Each piece has been crafted, so we can easily mix and match with the rest of the range.

This season we see the return of one pieces on the runway, with an array of colour to black. For me, while you all know I love colouir, black is always a safe bet, allowing you to seasonally flow into Summer and out. While the other colourful bold prints create energy and highlight a playful side to the brand we so love and adore.

“Prints are part of the Bonds signature. We do a lot of work to make sure our prints are dynamic and energetic but also appeal to a wide audience. There is definitely a boldness to our prints, in a sense they have their own character. Each print has been designed to tie in beautifully with our colour palette, which is both punchy and saturated, as well as pared back and neutral. We spend time working prints into the stories we want to tell. In this instance, with our bright modern florals and playful motifs, we wanted to echo the intensity of high summer in Australia.” – Senior Designer Anna Banno

Here in Australia, we are faced with rough surf and a strong UV, so what better way to combat this with swimwear that actually stays on when swimming, and protects your bod at the same time. With two way stretching lycra and UPF 50+ protection, BONDS delivers on providing us with the enjoyment that a day on that Aussie beach in summer we dream of.

Disclaimer: This was a paid collaboration with BONDS, however all thoughts and opinions are my own and I genuinely do love and wear their garments!

“You are what you eat”

I am always looking for beautiful gut enhancing recipes to incorporate into my lifestyle. This Collagen Beauty Bowl is a perfect example of something that will not only taste divine but is a deliciously healthy recipe to have under your wing.

The relationship between your mind, skin and gut is inextricably linked by what we eat and drink on a daily basis. Incorporating collagen boosting foods (like I have below) is a great way to combat ageing. For more on collagen check out my top tips here.

My Collagen Beauty Bowl

Why this beauty bowl is beautiful inside and out:

Magnesium

Why? Magnesium helps to cleanse and detox our bodies and skin (so if you are facing that extra special breakout – opt for foods rich in magnesium!) Increasing your magnesium intake, have more chances in treating allergic reactions or skin conditions such as eczema.

Eat more: Bananas, leafy greens, cacao, avocados, pumpkin seeds.

PreBiotics

Why? An increase in prebiotics makes for a happy gut, that help fuel the growth of good gut bacteria.

Eat more: Berries, bananas, seeds, broccoli.

ProBiotics

Why? If you and your family aren’t already, get yourself savvy with what probiotics are. Probiotics are an essential element that keeps your gut microbiota in check, alleviating oxidative stress on your body and in turn your skin. When you have a healthy gut environment, your body flourishes, making for that healthy and happy skin to shine.

Eat more: Probiotic supplements (I take a tablet every morning, along with a sprinkle of Natures Way probiotic powder in my shakes), Fermented food like kefir, yoghurt, kombucha, kimchi.

Antioxidants

Why? A very important part of slowing down the ageing process, along with helping combat harmful free radicals that cause inflammation and the breakdown of collagen

Eat more: Look for bright colourful vegetables and fruit, green tea, seeds (chia, flaxseeds).

Ellagic Acid

Why? Helps reduce an enzyme made by free radicals that creates a breakdown of collagen.

Eat more: : Blackberries, raspberries, pecans, cranberries, pomegranate, strawberries.
